Lamentations 4:7-9

New American Standard Bible

⁷ Her ^[a]consecrated ones were ^(A)purer than snow,
They shined more than milk;
They were more ruddy in ^[b]body than pearls of coral,
Their form was like ^[c](B)lapis lazuli.
⁸ Their appearance is ^(C)darker than soot,
They are not recognized in the streets;
Their ^(D)skin is shriveled on their bones,
It is dry, it has become like wood.
⁹ Better off are those ^(E)killed by the sword
Than those killed by hunger;
For they ^[d](F)waste away, ^[e]stricken
By the lack of the produce of the field.
